1. Why clinicians need Level 2 — 3 hours

This series

Level 2 is for dentists and dental care professionals only, after they have completed Level 1 (2 hours). Level 2 is a further 3 hours (this series). Refresh at least every 3 years. E-learning is accepted. Complete Level 2 within 6 months of starting in post.

Non-clinical staff complete Level 1 only. They do not take this series.

Level 3 is not the usual GDP requirement. Safeguarding leads, paediatric and special-care clinicians may choose it.

Suggested study time

  • Level 2 duty — 18 min
  • What you might see clinically — 20 min
  • FGM, exploitation, trafficking — awareness and referral — 17 min
  • Knowledge check — 5 min

  • D: raising concerns even when it is uncomfortable.

You still do not investigate

You notice, record, share and refer. Police and children’s social care investigate. Leading questions, unofficial photographs, or confronting an alleged abuser can harm the child and the later process.
