• 1 hour verifiable CPD
  • 1 of 2
  • Whole dental team
  • GDC outcomes A, B, D

Module 1 of 2 — what equality law requires in a UK dental practice, the protected characteristics, and how discrimination shows up at the desk and in the chair.

Course aim

Give every team member a practical way to treat patients and colleagues fairly, recognise discrimination, and make reasonable adjustments so the practice is usable — not only a poster on the wall.

2 hours in two modules: this is 1 of 2. Complete them in numerical order: 1, then 2. Both stay open — there is no lock. This series is dedicated EDI training. Legal and Ethical still covers consent and records; it does not replace this course.

What you will be able to do

  1. 1Explain why GDC Standards and equality law require fair treatment of patients and staff
  2. 2Name the protected characteristics used in GB equality law and note that Northern Ireland differs
  3. 3Distinguish direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  4. 4Spot common dental-practice examples without turning every preference into a legal claim

The two-module series

  • This module — 1: The law and fair treatment
  • 2: Adjustments, communication and culture

Use Start course below to begin at lesson 1. Later lessons unlock as you complete each step.

Suitable for: the whole team, including reception, clinicians, and practice managers.

Always follow current equality law in your UK nation, GDC Standards, and your written practice policies. This course is knowledge CPD, not legal advice.
