A 1-hour course on controlling hazardous substances in dentistry: disinfectants, monomers, mercury, plaster, and the fumes and splashes people stop noticing.

Course aim

Give the team a habit of reading the safety data sheet, using the control that matches the product, and knowing what to do after a splash or a mercury spill.

What you will be able to do

  1. 1Recognise typical dental COSHH hazards, including those that look like ordinary cleaning products
  2. 2Use safety data sheets and labels, not memory, to choose controls
  3. 3Apply the hierarchy: eliminate, substitute, engineer, then PPE
  4. 4Act on splashes, mercury events and asthma-type symptoms without waiting for a crisis

Use Start course below to begin at lesson 1. Later lessons unlock as you complete each step.

Suitable for: the whole team, including reception and practice managers.

Always follow current COSHH law, the safety data sheet for each product, and your written assessments. This course is knowledge CPD, not a substitute for local product training.
