Course aim

Give every team member a working understanding of a safe decontamination system so patients and staff are protected, and so the practice can show it meets current UK expectations.

What you will be able to do

  1. 1Explain GDC, CQC and HTM 01-05 expectations for decontamination in primary dental care.
  2. 2Describe the chain of infection and how standard precautions interrupt it.
  3. 3Use hand hygiene and PPE correctly for dirty, clean and clinical tasks.
  4. 4Set out a dirty-to-clean workflow, including cleaning before sterilisation.
  5. 5Match autoclave type and cycle to the load, and store packs safely.
  6. 6Describe storage, waterlines, impressions, sharps and the records that show a safe system.
