• 1 hour verifiable CPD
  • Year 5 of 5
  • IR(ME)R 5-year update for dentists
  • GDC outcomes A, C, D

Year 5 of the five-year IR(ME)R update — image quality, reject analysis, accidental exposures, records and the audit that shows the radiation protection system is real.

Course aim

Keep dentists and entitled operators current with IR(ME)R duties so every exposure is justified, optimised and recorded — and so the practice can show a 5-year radiation-protection update.

5 hours over 5 years: this is Year 5 of 5. Each module is 1 hour of verifiable CPD. Completing all five meets the PrismCPD IR(ME)R update of 5 hours for dentists. Complete the modules in numerical order: Year 1, then Year 2, then Year 3, then Year 4, then Year 5.

What you will be able to do

  1. 1Grade image quality and use reject analysis to reduce repeats
  2. 2Take equipment out of use when tests fail
  3. 3Recognise accidental or unintended exposures and follow reporting procedures
  4. 4Keep justification, exposure and evaluation records that would stand up to inspection

The five-year IR(ME)R series

  • Year 1 — Law, roles and duties
  • Year 2 — Justification and selection criteria
  • Year 3 — Optimisation and dose
  • Year 4 — Higher-risk patients, CBCT and communication
  • This module — Year 5 — Quality assurance, incidents and audit

Use Start course below to begin at lesson 1. Later lessons unlock as you complete each step.

Suitable for: Dentists, dental hygienists and therapists, orthodontic therapists, and dental nurses who are entitled to act as IR(ME)R operators.

Always follow current IR(ME)R 2017, IRR17, UKHSA/CQC guidance and your employer’s procedures. This course is knowledge CPD, not a substitute for local entitlement or equipment training.
