Level 2 module 2 of 3 (1 hour) — adults at risk, Mental Capacity Act principles, coercive control, and when you can share without consent.

Course aim

Meet the knowledge expected at safeguarding Level 2 for dentists and dental care professionals, after they have completed Level 1 so the practice can show a working system, not only a policy folder.

Hours: Level 2 is 3 hours in 3 modules of 1 hour. This is 2 of 3. Complete them in numerical order. All modules stay open — there is no lock between them. Refresh at least every 3 years. Competency should be reviewed in-year by the practice. Who takes this: dentists and DCPs, after Level 1. Non-clinical staff do not take Level 2. This is module 2 of the 3-hour Level 2 series.

What you will be able to do

  1. 1Define an adult at risk and the main types of adult abuse
  2. 2Apply Mental Capacity Act principles at a Level 2 clinical standard
  3. 3Recognise domestic abuse and coercive control in the surgery
  4. 4Explain when information may be shared without consent

This Level 2 series

  • 1: Clinical recognition in children and young people
  • This module — 2: Adults at risk, capacity and domestic abuse
  • 3: Referral, records, allegations and the practice system

Use Start course below to begin at lesson 1. Later lessons unlock as you complete each step.

Always follow current national guidance and your local safeguarding children partnership / adult safeguarding board procedures. Level 3 is not normally required in general dental practice; safeguarding leads may choose it as extra.
