Module 3 of 3 — running a fair complaints process, knowing where unresolved cases go next, and keeping professional boundaries, advertising and indemnity in good order.
Course aim
Give every team member a working grasp of UK legal and ethical duties in dental practice — consent, confidentiality, candour and complaints — so patients are treated fairly and the practice can show a professional system.
3 hours in three modules: this is 3 of 3. Each module is 1 hour of verifiable CPD. Completing all three covers the PrismCPD legal and ethical series, including complaints handling. Complete them in numerical order: 1, then 2, then 3. All three stay open — there is no lock between modules.
What you will be able to do
- 1Describe a fair local complaints process: acknowledge, investigate, respond, learn
- 2Signpost NHS, private (including Dental Complaints Service) and ombudsman routes when local resolution fails
- 3Explain when the GDC is — and is not — the right first destination for a complaint
- 4Apply professional boundaries, advertising rules and the duty to hold adequate indemnity
The three-module series
- 1: Standards, consent and capacity
- 2: Confidentiality, records and candour
- This module — 3: Complaints and professional conduct
Suitable for: Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Therapists, Dental Nurses, Orthodontic Therapists, and practice managers or complaints leads.
Always follow current GDC Standards, UK data protection law, CQC (or equivalent) requirements in your nation, and your written practice procedures. This course is knowledge CPD, not legal advice.
