Level 1 module 2 of 2 (1 hour) — confidentiality at the desk, what you can share, and how reception and managers support a safe response without investigating.

Course aim

Meet the knowledge expected at safeguarding Level 1 for every team member — non-clinical staff stop after Level 1; clinical staff then continue to Level 2 so the practice can show a working system, not only a policy folder.

Hours: Level 1 is 2 hours in 2 modules of 1 hour. This is 2 of 2. Complete them in numerical order. All modules stay open — there is no lock between them. Refresh at least every 3 years. Competency should be reviewed in-year by the practice. Who takes this: non-clinical staff complete Level 1 only (2 hours). Clinical staff complete Level 1 (2 hours) and Level 2 (3 hours). Everyone completes Level 1. Non-clinical staff stop after these 2 hours.

What you will be able to do

  1. 1Describe what reception and managers are well placed to notice
  2. 2Explain that confidentiality does not stop you reporting a risk
  3. 3Keep a clear, factual record and know where local numbers are kept
  4. 4Support a colleague who raises a concern without gossip

This Level 1 series

  • 1: Duty, harm and how to report
  • This module — 2: What to notice and how to share

Always follow current national guidance and your local safeguarding children partnership / adult safeguarding board procedures. Level 3 is not normally required in general dental practice; safeguarding leads may choose it as extra.
