3. The practice system — and keeping Level 2 current

A system, not a poster

  • Named lead and deputy
  • Children and adults policies that staff have actually read
  • Local contacts (including out of hours) that work
  • Training matrix: Level 1 or 2 by role, dates, 3-year refresh
  • Safer recruitment and induction (Level 1 within 6 weeks for non-clinical; Level 2 within 6 months for clinical)
  • A way to discuss cases (confidentially) so learning does not stay in one person’s head

Hours to show

  • Non-clinical: Level 1 only — 2 hours (PrismCPD Level 1 modules 1–2)
  • Dentists and DCPs: Level 1 and Level 2 — 2 + 3 = 5 hours (Level 1 modules 1–2, then this series 1–3)

Competency review annually. Refresh at least every 3 years. Online is accepted at Levels 1 and 2.

Series close

You now have the knowledge expected at Level 2. It does not replace your local lead or a live referral.

Always follow current intercollegiate guidance, GDC Standards, and local procedures.
